Meet our Belgian artist Jan De Vliegher

A few weeks ago, friends of mine introduced me to the contemporary Belgian painter Jan De Vliegher, by showing me one of the publications about his work, titled ‘Treasury’. I really was impressed by all these gorgeous works of art.

I hadn’t seen paintings of Jan before, so I started googling his name and discovered more about this talented Belgian painter and his wonderful work.

Jan has a beautiful website where a lot of his paintings are to discover.

Jan De Vliegher is born in Bruges (°1964) and lives and works in Bruges. Since 2003 he is a teacher drawing and painting at the Stedelijke Academie of Bruges.

Jan graduated at the Sint-Lucas Higher Institute for Visual Arts of Ghent (1982-1986) and obtained his
masterdegree in painting (magna cum laude).

He already exhibited in various national as international art galleries (list of exhibitions click here).

Jan’s preference is given to the figurative painting, This allows him to express his love for colouring and poetry of painting, in a more or less free style.

Jan is not adhered to the narrative or the story but he is seeking for universal situations. Ordinary things and events in their own environment are captured on a photo and brought onto a painterly image.

Composition is of much more importance than content.

The artist loves to use a bright and strong color palette to give his paintings a dynamic and expressive character. He brings his paintings to life by playing with light and color.The emotional impact of a work is of a huge importance to the painter.

Jan De Vliegher creates visual beauty of which the essence is vitality and energy.

 

Jan is painting architecture, interiors, people, nature and still lifes.

Two Belgian artisans

Today I want to introduce you to 2 Belgian people, both artisans and creative in the outdoor sector.

 

Stijn Cornilly is a Belgian landscaper, creative in the design and construction of stylish, low maintenance gardens.

“An important specialization of our green business is bringing structure and strength in the garden.
Boxwood, holly and yew are ideally suited as basic elements for a good garden design. They are a permanent fixture in the garden.
A fixed value of remaining strength and decorative green opposite example, the colors of seasonal flowers and plants.” explains Styn Cornilly on his website.

 



Inside and outside are increasingly interconnected charged. Walls are no longer barriers. The landscaper creates a natural transition between interior and exterior. In his garden design he will take into account the style of house and home. Only then will be your green oasis a nice extension of the house.

The second person that I want you to meet today, is a master at designing and construction of beautiful farm buildings, fences and accessories, all related to the traditional Flemish country outdoor living and landscape architecture : Dirk Mortier.

His company is based in Everbeek-Beneden (Brakel) only a few steps from my home.

Many operations done with authentic tools and machinery. Thus we achieve a true-striking result. Rural architecture is characterized by including in the area available materials like stone, straw, wood, clay, etc. .. The use and application of these materials is a local process of thousands of years of experience and Dirk Mortier continues this traditional method - adapted to the current objectives.

Hand-made Belgian Hardware Jewelry

Peter van Cronenburg started as a cabinet maker in 1983, and because of his frustration to not find the exact hardware he needed to finish his realisations,- most items on the market were to him too 19th Century, with a mechanical finish and artificial patina-, he developed new models to respond to esthetical and technical challenges.

Peter also started collecting historic pieces in order to reproduce them and searched for craftsmen who executed their work in a traditional way.

Over the years, van Croonenburg has envolved into a high-service company with its own foundry that delivers high-quality hand-made architectural hardware.



Peter explains : “ We are committed to the details that make the difference. This soul, this passion can be found in each one of the models of our collection. Our thousand of models go from 16th Century Venetian door handles to ‘Shaker’ knobs, from Louis XV latches to Art Deco door bells, but all have the same in common: they have been thoroughly evaluated in terms of significance, purity of shape, function and proportions.”



Prototypes developed for a client can remain proprietary, or can be integrated in Peter’s collection.

The main manufacturing processes are forging and casting (sand casting as well as ‘cire perdue’), depending on the design and function of the piece.

“It is important to make a distinction between rooms of a house : rooms for reception, services and private spaces. The wince cellar door of a connoisseur deserves another handle than a pantry. You don’t enter a library in the same state of mind you do with a workshop.” (Peter van Cronenburg).

From door handles, cabinet fittings, doorbells, to coathangers,… Peter van Cronenburg delivers a unique and privileged service and gives the clients the level of customization they want.





A wide range of finish possibilities is provided.

“We want to obtain an authentic look and feel, no varnishes are used, because the hardware does not age natural, using varnish.”, explains Peter.
